Successful Dressing For Men

HAIR
Men's hair should be short and neat. This goes for most facial hair, especially goatees. Most men have done the goatee thing. Now it is time to move on.

COLOGNE
If you feel the need to wear cologne, maybe you want to re-think for a few minutes and remember back to any elevators you've shared with men who've bought stock in Polo Cologne. If you must use it...use only a small amount and avoid wearing a heavy scent.

SUIT
You should wear a conservative suit, that is well fitted. A single-breasted suit, in a traditional cut is safest in a pinstripe, solid, or subtle pattern, navy or dark gray wool. Avoid brown, green, or light colors, unless your girlfriend or most trusted female friends have seen the outfit and gives the green light. Avoid sport coats.

SHIRT
Your shirt should be well pressed and have a tab or spread collar. While white and light blue shirts are safe for most industries, other solid, high quality cotton shirts can also be worn. Polo ponies belong on Argentine playing fields, not on your chest. Consulting firms typically expect white shirts, while banking does not.

TIE
Compliment your suit with a conservative tie with stripes or a small pattern (red/maroon is traditionally the most conservative).

HANDKERCHIEF
Avoid an elaborate handkerchief displayed from your breast pocket unless you have the confidence to pull it off. If you wear suspenders make sure your pants are designed for them "clip-on's" are the kiss of death. Best if you avoid suspenders altogether, unless you're English and can use the cool accent to get away with it.

SOCKS
Basic black or navy socks are best. Avoid getting dressed in the dark, because people do notice when a person wears socks that are different colors (and they don't think that it's a charming quirk of the obviously brilliant mind). Socks should be mid-calf length to avoid accidentally exposing your 'winter white' legs.

SHOES
Shoes should be well polished black or cordovan leather. Depending on the industry, they can be slip-on or lace-up (a must for banking), but heels and soles should not be worn down. This may come as a surprise to a few of you, but your belt should match your shoe color. Avoid large or conspicuous belt buckles, especially if your name is on it.

JEWELRY
Jewelry should be minimized anything beyond a wristwatch and a wedding ring is questionable. Rings with club or religious affiliation can be risky. Earrings are not an option, unless you're trying creative director of an agency that only exists on TV.

BRIEFCASE
Bring a briefcase if you must, but only if it's good leather. Those silver Porsche cases are very 1984. "Padfolios" are good for carrying papers, and won't get in the way.

DON'T
A few other NoNo's include:

  • backpacks

  • the patent leather

  • light colored shoes

  • light colored socks

  • short sleeves

  • dirty fingernails

  • wrinkled, worn or poorly fitting clothes

  • ragged trouser cuffs, missing buttons, or cuffs that do not reach the top of your shoes.

Edakkal Cave: This location of breathtaking beauty is three kilometres from Ambalavayal which is 25 kilometres from Kalpetta. The Edakkal cave in the Ambukuthy mountain, is not a cave in the real sense. As stated in the India Antiquary (Vol.XXX, page - 410) and quoted in the District Gazette, Kozhikode, it is only'a cleft about 96ft. long and 22ft wide in the rock'. It is a fissure made by a corner of rock splitting off from the main body due to some natural causes. The depth of both the cleft and the fissure is 30 ft. What makes it a cave to the ordinary observer is the fact that in the other portion of the large cleft, an enormous rock, weighing several tonnes, has fallen forming a roof over a large part of it. The rock wall contains some interesting carvings, which represent human and animal figures and objects of human use and symbols. These carvings speak of a highly civilized people of pre-historic age and inspires the archaeologists and historians to rewrite the history of Wayanad and Kerala as a whole.

sony develops "Bio Battery

Sony Develops "Bio Battery" Generating Electricity from Sugar - Achieves world's highest power output for passive-type bio batteries - TOKYO, August 23, 2007- Sony today announced the development of a bio battery1 that generates electricity from carbohydrates (sugar) utilizing enzymes as its catalyst, through the application of power generation principles found in living organisms.Test cells of this bio battery have achieved power output of 50 mW, currently the world's highest level2 for passive-type3 bio batteries. The output of these test cells is sufficient to power music play back on a memory-type Walkman. 4 prototype bio battery units (left) connected to Walkman for playbackIn order to realize the world's highest power output, Sony developed a system of breaking down sugar to generate electricity that involves efficiently immobilizing enzymes and the mediator (electronic conduction materials) while retaining the activity of the enzymes at the anode. Sony also developed a new cathode structure which efficiently supplies oxygen to the electrode while ensuring that the appropriate water content is maintained. Optimizing the electrolyte for these two technologies has enabled these power output levels to be reached.Sugar is a naturally occurring energy source produced by plants through photosynthesis. It is therefore regenerative, and can be found in most areas of the earth, underlining the potential for sugar-based bio batteries as an ecologically- friendly energy device of the future.Sony will continue its development of immobilization systems, electrode composition and other technologies in order to further enhance power output and durability, with the aim of realizing practical applications for these bio batteries in the future. The research results presented here have been accepted as an academic paper at the 234th American Chemical Society National Meeting & Exposition in Boston, MA USA, and were announced at 11 am local time on August 22, 2007. The bio battery mechanism The newly developed bio battery incorporates an anode consisting of sugar-digesting enzymes and mediator, and a cathode comprising oxygen-reducing enzymes and mediator, either side of a cellophane separator. The anode extracts electrons and hydrogen ions from the sugar(glucose) through enzymatic oxidation as follows:Glucose -> Gluconolactone + 2 H+ + 2 e- The hydrogen ion migrates to the cathode through the separator. Once at the cathode, the hydrogen ions and electrons absorb oxygen from the air to produce water:(1/2) O2 + 2 H+ + 2 e- -> H2OThrough this process of electrochemical reaction, the electrons pass through the outer circuit to generate electricity.Source : http://www.sony. net/SonyInfo/ News/Press/ 200708/07- 074E/index. html
