Fall/Winter 2007/2008 Men’s Fashion Trends

Dressing Up

fall trend: dressing upMen this fall/winter are (finally) dressing up. Elegance and sophistication in combination with nonchalance are key words this fall/winter in men’s fashion world. For years, men, particularily youngsters, have been striked with loud streetwear. Ultra low-cuts, screaming jeans and tracksuits are changed this season with blazers, neck-ties and tailoring. Even the younger men that aspire to be fashionable, as well as regular guys will adopt smart blazers, shirts and start favouring formalwear and tailoring instead of street-influenced casualwear. The polished look will mix more and more into everyday clothes this winter and following seasons as well.

Glamour

fall fashion: glamourMen finally care what they wear and how they look. Men’s fashion goes mainstream – into the closets of regular guys. It doesn’t mean that all guys will be suddenly well dressed, but lot of them will try to be. As a result, glamour will take its place this winter. Lot of guys will want to look glamorous. Decorative and excessive new details in fabric mixture, colorful and unexpected accessories or color variation will be present on this winter’s fashion setting. We’ve seen at catewalks a lot of interesting mixes of chalk stripes and pin stripes, sound colours and matching ties, creative knits in exquisite coloring and patterns. This glamorous look is far from being showy and loud. This fall/winter trend is glamorous in a more sophisticated approach, with classic styles serving as the foundation.

The New Rules of Silicon Valley Style

A current BusinessWeek.com article that I came across features the tech industry’s brightest leaders under 30 years old who are most likely to shape the digital future. Of the 16 men featured – who are the faces representing 13 businesses – 7 of them were wearing sport jackets or suits. Until recently, you’d be hard pressed to find men in tech dressed this way. Of course, their stories caught my intrigue. But their charisma, as captured by the article’s photographs, is absolutely captivating. This is not the same sloppy Silicon Valley style that has been the fodder of fashion snobs. Sure, not everyone was suited up, and no one was wearing a tie, but the idea of dressing for success is alive and well, in new ways.

Clearly these Next Gen Mavericks are on an aggressive campaign for the public’s attention and for the coin of venture capitalists. And, they look the part they are playing.

Dressing down at the workplace got its start right here in Silicon Valley and it soon became the norm in almost every other industry throughout the world. But now it seems that dressing down has resulted in everyone dressing pretty much the same: women wearing dark and tight trousers with nondescript pastel blouses and of men dressed in baggy chinos with boring blue button-downs. Most office workers have developed an identity based on anonymity. Looking the same as your cube neighbor is not a good formula for advancing a career! Life may seem unfair at a moment such as this, but the business world appears resolute that looks convey credibility. Your boss may want to promote someone who appears to have it all.

The fact is that dressing down has made us all feel down about our work and about ourselves. It’s time to take a new path when it comes to dynamically dressing to reflect a more positive and focused approach to your job and how you feel about life in general. I like to call it personal power dressing.

But until you develop your own personal style and show it, you’d be hard pressed to get anyone to see you for who you truly, deeply are.

The New Rules of Silicon Valley Style

  • Dressing down means you’re looking like everyone else who dresses down, and how cool is that?
  • Start to power dress for yourself. You’ll be amazed about the positive effect on yourself, your career and others.
  • Look like you’re ready for the position you want versus the position you have.
  • Update your wardrobe with new styles that are classic to your industry.
  • Style your hair so that it doesn’t look like you just crawled out of bed.
  • Men, keep your facial hair neatly groomed; women, don’t overdo the makeup.
  • In the corporate world, accessories and color give you a chance to rise above your suit.
  • Don’t compromise your competence by dressing down to meet with casual clients.

What you need to know about men’s fashion

What you need to know about men’s fashion

GQ Magazine offers several style tips that will help you earn the “best dressed” status symbol. There are some of the “commandments” they list for men's fashion to achieve this look:

1. Honor thy tailor. According to GQ, even the best suits need altering. In men's fashion this is probably the most important detail that is not always adhered to. Pants need to be shortened, jackets need to be brought in, sleeves need to be narrowed (yes, you can ask your tailor to slim down your sleeves), and buttons need to be realigned with buttonholes (most guys’ shoulders aren’t entirely even, meaning your jacket often sits a bit askew).

If you're going to buy off the rack, you should always buy your correct size, then have a tailor customize it to your body. GQ says that the chances are you’re wearing your suit a size too large. Its shoulders should hug your shoulders (not jut out past them). Also, have your tailor size the sleeves so they stop at the hinge of your wrist (not halfway down your thumb) and to size the pants so they break once (not gather in a baggy mess at your heels). Having your tailor properly fit your suit is the difference between being appropriately dressed and being stylishly dressed.

Dress up by the ways of world

“Dress up by the ways of world and eat what you please”

When getting ready for new day it’s all about
looking fresh and feeling energetic. Dressing up in
a fine manner and carrying it all with grace is what actually recites the personality and the real “you”. Styles change every season so there is no point in limiting and sticking to one style but it’s always better to experiment wisely.

The dressing style of Men:

The clothing styles change every season but there is one constant touch that unleashes the kind of taste you have. When it comes to men’s clothing its important that the colors are right and same goes for the cuts. There are a few basic colors that actually suit men these include blue, black, white, grey, cream etc. Another vital tip for dressing will be to iron your clothes every time you wear them.

When dressing up it’s not just about clothes but accessories as well. For that “ideal look” it’s important to always have a few things like watch, tie, pen, cuff link and tie pin.

Once equipped with all above and a positive attitude you are all set to rule the world.
